Makerspace (Tinkering)

24-October-19

What is our Maker Space?

Our Maker Space allows hands-on, kinaesthetic learning with circuitry, computer systems and tinkering. Collaboration and sharing of knowledge is an integral part of how we work. We decide on the projects we want to work on and our teachers help us by facilitating this work.

We are part of a collaboration called Makers In Schools with three schools in Cork, Glasnevin and Malahide. See https://www.makecreateinnovate.ie/makers-in-schools and https://www.makersinschools.ie/firhouse.

We are also involved in an Erasmus project with https://www.museoscienza.org/tinkering-eu/what-do-we-do.asp.

Our Maker Space is open every Thursday after school from 2:40 to 4:30, facilitated by Deirdre B & Jack. Our Maker Space is open for Let's C every Monday morning. We also use computer systems in Digital Learning.

A PBL day (Project Based Learning) took place on 25th January 2019. The theme for that day was Da Vinci and Makerspace. 4 breakout projects developed from this day. See our video for more details. We will be updating this page with new projects soon.

On the 29th May 2019 a small group of pupils went to Athlone IT with Malahide Portmarnock ETSS went to an exhibition and we got to show some of our projects such as : interactive map, Scribble bots, microbits, catapult and Makey Makey.
